Pleated skirt tutorial - Kagome Higurashi. by neptunyan Pleated skirt tutorial - Kagome Higurashi. by neptunyan
First of all, if there is any of you who were looking forward to the second part of my Mikasa jacket, I am terribly sorry, but I messed up the jacket, so until I find a way to fix it, I thought about working on another costume, while crying like a little baby. Be careful how you trim your costumes! I cut too much from the front. x.x But the second part of the tutorial should be here soon, maybe within a week or two.

As for this skirt, I never imagined I'd ever be able to make a pleated skirt, I'm so happy with how it came out. :D
And I'm really excited about the cosplay too! I hope this'll be helpful for you fellow cosplayers!

I got the fabric from the local fabric store. The fabric is called minimat and over here it costs about 9 RON (2-3 dollars) / meter.
I suppose the prices differ from country to country, but it shouldn't be too expensive where you live either. :)

You need to fold the fabric in order to make the upper part shorter, so the skirt would take a curled shape to fit you around your waist. I named them 'knots' so you can follow the instructions better, but they're just little folds that you need to sew together. I hope this helped! :D

I'm not entirely sure what the fabric is called, I'm sorry - but I'll pay a visit to the fabric shop next week and maybe they can help me find out. I'll reply to this again soon. :D
And thank you, I'm happy you like it!

Thank you! Yes, it would work with any type of pleated skirt, I used Kagome Higurashi as an example because I cosplay her, but you can make a skirt like this for any costume and you can make it as long or as short as you want. :D

Thanks so much ^^ This was one of the most helpful ones that i could find
and it was easy to follow. Im gonna try it out with scrap fabric first(since i have
no ability to sew whatsoever XD) so i dont mess up the real fabric. ^^

You can practice sewing on different types of fabric you don't need. Don't worry, with a little bit of patience you can do it! And you are very welcome, I'm really happy to know I can help fellow cosplayers. :D

^^ It helps me alot because im a first time cosplayer, so if it seems like im asking alot of questions thats why XD lol
Also, what length(dont know what to call it) did you make your pleats?

:iconneptunyan:
neptunyan Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2014
Ah, are you? Good luck with your costumes, then! And don't worry about asking questions, I'm happy to help you. :D

I usually write the measurements in the tutorial, but the final result will always vary from the original length by a few cm because of the hems you need to sew. My pleats are now around 38 cm, and the fabric was originally 40 cm long. But I recommend you should measure yourself and decide how long / short you want your skirt to be, because some people have longer legs, some have shorter legs, thus it may not always fit well on everyone.
